"Holy balls that was strange"

"Holy Balls that was strange", this lovely quote was uttered by my friend Elie upon seeing "There will be blood" starring Daniel Day Lewis. I must sheepishly admit that I've never seen any of his previous films even though as a former film student and semi-cinephile there really is no excuse for not seeing the likes of "Last of the Mohicans" or "Gangs of New York".

Well, you can count me as one converted parishioner in the church of Daniel Day Lewis. His performance was brilliant and although I was worried the film would be too much of a downer to enjoy, I was happily mistaken. Originally I had only a passing interest in seeing this film because the subject matter. Turn of the century oilmen, really didn't appeal to me, but in the end, the setting of the film was secondary to Daniel Day Lewis' exploration of one mans relentless obsession to conquer the world around him.

Almost as amazing as Lewis' performance was the sound design for the film, which was fantastic and disturbing (or perhaps it was fantastic because it was disturbing).

But, now that I think about it, maybe Elie's review says it all... "Holy balls that was strange"

"C" made this little video as part of my 40th birthday get together invite. It' s a little disturbing but I guess that's the point.

Non Orlando folks may not recognize the other dude, it's none other than my buddy Rich Swim, who I am sure is just pleased as punch to be in this bizarre little video.
